Youth Opportunity University
Where Faith, Learning, and Leadership Unite!
Friendship Day School is proud to support Youth Opportunity University (Y.O.U.), an independent, faith-based summer enrichment program offered in partnership with Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
Youth Opportunity University provides scholars with a robust summer learning experience that emphasizes academic growth, leadership development, creativity, and character—aligning closely with FDS’s commitment to whole-scholar development.
Program Overview
Youth Opportunity University (Y.O.U.) is a community-centered summer enrichment program serving scholars in Kindergarten through 8th grade. The program blends academic instruction with hands-on enrichment experiences designed to strengthen confidence, curiosity, and leadership skills.
While Y.O.U. is not operated by Friendship Day School, FDS is pleased to support and share this opportunity with families seeking a values-aligned summer learning experience.
Program Focus Areas
Y.O.U. is built around five core pillars:
- Christian Education – We begin each day grounded in faith, guiding scholars to grow in character and purpose. Through learning the Beatitudes and Fruits of the Spirit, scholars discover how to live out God’s word daily.
- Academics (English language arts and math) – Our academic focus helps scholars stay sharp in reading, writing, and math while building confidence for the next school year.
- African American Studies – Scholars explore the stories, achievements, ad resilience of African Americans who have shaped history and culture. This pillar empowers them to see themselves s part of a rich legacy of leadership, creativity, and courage.
- The Arts (music, dance, visual arts, theatre) – Through music, dance, visual arts, and drama, scholars express creativity and celebrate the beauty of diverse perspectives. The arts help build confidence, teamwork, and nurture the talents of each scholar.
- Social Emotional Learning (CASEL-aligned) – Grounded in the CASEL framework, scholars build self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making.
