At Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts, we’re preparing our scholars to soar! We are a private school serving K–5 students in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Our Mission

Our mission is to establish a school for the whole child that emphasizes problem-solving skills, the scientific method of thinking, artistic expression, and character development to ensure our scholars are college-ready and prepared to participate in a global society.

Our Vision

Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts incorporates a commitment to academic rigor and service to humanity that prepares youth to succeed in a 21st-century world.

Our Founders

Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts was born under the visionary leadership of Dr. Clifford Jones, Sr. and Mrs. C. Brenda Jones, senior pastor and first lady, respectively, of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Having long envisioned an educational philosophy embracing innovation, rigor, and character development within the framework of evidence-based educational research, they tirelessly advocated for a school focused on youth development and educational advancement.

Our History

Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts is the product of countless hours of research into the most recent brain and learning studies and discourse about educational philosophy. Molded by the conceptual input, time, and hearts of dozens of educators and community leaders, we offer a private education designed to give our students the lift they need to soar. We provide a rigorous academic program that encourages scholars to engage, explore, and evaluate the world through the lens of the sciences and the arts. Our beautiful private school setting is open to youth of all faiths and ethnicities.

Our Philosophy

At Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts, we offer an innovative and integrated arts program where scholars learn self-direction and build character through attention to mindfulness and guided meditation. Friendship Day School seeks to provide rigorous curricula that prepare scholars for the competitive environments of college-bound students living in a global society.

Summer Y.O.U. and Preschool Program

Friendship Day School builds on the success of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church’s highly acclaimed eight-week summer Y.O.U. program. For over 15 years, the summer Y.O.U. program has served approximately 500 preschool through ninth-grade students annually. These students participate in stimulating summer academics that include plenty of fun and culture. Now the Y.O.U. families can continue their children’s solid educational experiences at Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts.

Additionally, FDS is an appropriate adjunct to the five-star Marizetta Kerry Child Development Center. For over 40 years, the MKCDC has offered preschool education in a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment. Now with FDS, families have the option to have their children in an enhanced learning environment from early preschool through the elementary years complemented by our enriched summer program—all on the same campus.
